As the subject says: whenever I come on the zone, all I seem to hear is people saying, I'm gunna order pizza, or, I want some fried chicken. Etc Etc. So what I would like to know is this. What do you cook? What do you eat? What are the recipes of things that you prepare for yourselves? I'd especially like to hear answers from those who live allone or with partners, rather than with parents who do everything for them.

Well, I still live with mum at home, but she's out most of the time at work during the week, so I'm left to fix my own breakfast, usually a bowl of cereal or boiled eggs and soldiers or toast, lunch has changed for me since I got a Lean, Mean, grilling machine for my Birthday two weeks ago, so I'll either do a cheese, ham and onion toasty, sausages in a blanket (slice of bread and butter) or quorn burgers which don't have a lot of fat in them or occationally, Mum leaves me some of her home-made meat and veg soups which I heat in the microwave for between four and four-and-a-half minutes. I'd probably do scratch breakfasts and moderately healthy lunches if I was living on my own anyway. As for dinner time, mum's usually home in time to cook for us, or on occasions like the past two nights, she made a beef casserole on Sunday, so I put the casserole in the oven on a low heat and we have it with either baked or roast potatoes and sprouts.

I live alone and I live off of frozen dinners. Fried chicken, pizza I do order from time to time.

Indian food and candy :-) We don't have to cook either, though, which is exactly why we live off them!

Well, my fiancee cooks more than I do, as in from recipes and such, but I just had some chicken breast I marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, a little sesame oil, some cumin, some mild curry and some garlic. I also used a bit of wasabi, which is a kind of Japanese horseradish I guess, but in order to taste it you have to dab it onto the meat before you bake it and not just put it in the marinade else it'll just cook away. Had some canned corn with the chicken and according to the fiancee the meal was delicious and I thought so as well. Sometimes I like to make a meatloaf or just fry up burgers or do the occasional crock pot meal.
And when I'm especially lazy, it's frozen pizza or hot pockets or otehr frozen things.

Godzilla-On-Toast, that sounds really nice. Did you just put that together? Or, do you have a recipe?

I live with my parents, and although I do eat whatever they cook, I can and do make my own meals when I'm hungry and/or when we're not already having something else. I don't really have a set thing I live on, but I usually just make whatever I feel like eating. Soimetimes I warm up left-oversm get some cereals, make toast and eat it with cinnamon or peanut butter or make sandwitches with it, or boil some Rawman soup or some weinies to make hot dogs. Once, I finally got the courage (for me) to fry some weinies (as the crackling sound of something frying makes me nervous), and that turned out good. *smile* I also have tried frying eggs and making scrambled eggs with some other things in it, but I still need a little more practice on that. And sometimes I'll help my mom or dad with what they're making.

If I had the money to freely spend on it, and/or if I had my own place, I would be making homemade pizzas (using either flattened Bisquick biscuit dough or the ready-to-use pizza crusts), casseroles, soups and stews, meatloads, salads, and sandwitches. I like those foods because you can easily experiment with them and most (except for maybe the meatloaf) don't require a certain amount of anything. Plus, I'm personally not much into standing at a stove or constantly checking on the food and would rather just make something period, or be able to leave it there for a while while I do other things. I might not mind that, but I really have to feel like it. *smile* I would also make Mexican/Tex-Mex meals of course since Mexican is a major part of my heritage. Another thing I might sometimes do is make pancakes, French toast, (and maybe omelets) and try experimenting with those, spaghetti or pasta or lasagna, fish, vegetarian foods, and other foods I haven't tried yet or don't eat often.

For drinks, )besides water), we have milk, and sometimes tea, Kool-Aid, Crystal Lite, canned juice and occasionally Sunny Delight or sodas. If I had my own place, I'd have milk, fresh fruit juices or tea, Crystal Lite, and (occasionally) soda. Besides making the fruit juices, I'd also sometimes make smoothies or sometimes shakes.

As for snacks/desserts, I would not have much sweets around except for maybe sometimes homemade cookies (aside from Oreos and the Mexican wafer cookies), a candy, and ice cream (or once in awhilem homemade ice cream.)

I don't have any specific recipes as to how I would make what by the way, as I just collect recipes from the Internet, and for simple things, I have the book "Beyond TV Dinners." The main recipe site I personally go to is www.recipesource.com.

I kind of just threw it together by taste. Sometimes, actually, most of the time I follow recipes, but with these marinades I can pretty much start with the soy sauce and improvise from there.

Post 14 by sugar (Entertain me. I dare you.) on Thursday, 16-Nov-2006 7:20:24

Lucky you, lol. I think that's my problem, I have no sense as far as improvisation goes......

Post 15 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Thursday, 16-Nov-2006 11:15:36

Improvisation doesn't matter. In fact, I find it a bliming nuissance, especially if you live, like me, with a mother who's either, in Waitrose Supermarket, filling her trolley with fresh meat, vegetables and all the other necessary cooking ingredients for the pot, or in the kitchen right below this room, our back room, cooking our main meals and preparing fresh, home-made snacks for the next 7 days, so we never have any quality time together to do anything else at the weekends, because she feels she has to cook cook cook, all the bloody time and I'm sick to death of it now.

I wish I was a better cook, you know one of those maddening people who just chuck things together and it tastes great! I'm probably not that bad, I just don't enjoy it that much. My boyfriend and I seam to work well when we cook together which is probably unusual, but is fine with me because all the responcibility isn't on my shoulders. I'm not very good at cooking for myself when he's not here, somehow it just doesn't seam worth the effort. I'm also gluton intolerent which means no bread, pastry and cakes etc, also alot of sauces have gluton in it, so I have to do a lot of things from scratch. I miss just being able to chuck something in the oven or grab a sandwhich. Although I'm getting better at this trial and error business mainly thanks to his confidence and interest in what we eat. My x-boyfriend didn't care less if he lived on take aways or if what I did make was crap, lol, he probably did actually, but seeing as he rarely lifted a finger to help, or knew where the pans were kept he couldn't really complain!

Rice, beans and tortillas. Sometimes I throw slices of chorizo in there. I eat this almost every day. When I don't have tortillas, I just use lettuce. Rice and beans in my bowl is good for my soul.
